About IELTS

IELTS exam is an English language test which helps the students in improving English skills like reading, writing, speaking and listening. IELTS test can be categorized into Academic and General Training and can be furnished below:

IELTS Academic

IELTS Academic Test is designed for people applying for higher or professional education in English speaking environment in which its features reflects the academic language and assesses whether the students are ready for training. This is a widely supported approach by the institutions that recognize IELTS.

IELTS Academic comprises of four modules like Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking and the students acquires training in all these aspects during the course period. The duration to complete the entire test is about 2 hours 45 minutes.

IELTS General Training

IELTS General Training focuses on basic survival skills in broad social and workplace stations and is also designed for the people who are willing to pursue their education or employment or conduct training programs in foreign countries.  It is referred as a requirement for migration to Australian, Canada, UK and New Zealand.

IELTS General Training is divided into four modules viz. Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. Students who opt for this type of test obtain training in all these modules and then prepare for test. The duration to complete this entire section is 2 hours 45 minutes. IELTS Registration

Students who are willing to pursue IELTS course need to register through online. The one who is willing to get registered can follow the procedure given below:

  • Open the website of IELTS exam online at ieltsregistration.org
  • Fill all the details in online registration form. The “PLEA IELTS Test Center” in registration form is called as “Portland City Center”.
  • After filling the registration form, check all the details in registration form and then submit.
  • Later the candidate will get invoice of $225 i.e. Rs.14, 705/- as email in which the candidates can pay online through credit card or bank transfer.
  • After completion of fee payment, the candidate receives an official confirmation email which include registration time, test location and test module booked.
  • The candidates who have not made payment, will be cancelled their registrations two weeks before each exam. So the candidates should pay the fee immediately after registration.
  • If the candidate register within two weeks of the test date, then they should pay within 3 days or the candidate may not get registered.
  • Candidates should not make multiple registrations for the same test date.
  • Candidates should check the email-id (provided in registration form) regularly for the confirmation of test date.
  • If the candidate don’t provide email in registration form, then the confirmation will be made by fax or mail.
  • If the candidate don’t receive email, then he should intimate them within 7 days before the exam.

IELTS Syllabus

The syllabus of IELTS is mentioned hereunder:

Listening Test:

IELTS Listening Test comprises of sub-sections in which it consists of conversations and the students should listen the conversation and answer the questions carefully. First section is a conversation between two people set in an everyday social context. Second section is a monologue or a speech. Third section is a conversation among a maximum of four people set in an academic setting and finally the fourth section contains a monologue on an academic subject i.e. an academic lecture. Each section can be heard only once.

Reading Test:

IELTS Reading Test assesses the test taker’s skills in reading as they answer the questions like multiple choice questions, matching information, sentence completion, short answers and summary writing etc. after reading a long text in each sections. The reading component includes variety of questions like reading for main ideas, reading for gist, reading for detail, recognizing writers, understanding logical argument, skimming, opinions, attitudes and purpose are used in order to test the reading skills.

Writing Test:

IELTS Writing Test varies different as per Academic and General Training and can be mentioned below:

Academic Writing Test:

Academic Writing Test comprises of two tasks which include:

  • Task 1:

Under Task 1, the candidate is given a graph, table, chart or diagram and asked to describe or summarize or explain the information in the candidate’s own words. The candidate is asked to describe and explain data, describe the stages of process how something works or describe an object or event.

  • Task 2:

Under Task 2, the candidate will be asked to write an essay in response to a point of view, argument or a problem in which the response should be in formal.

General Training Writing Test:

General Training Writing Test consists of two tasks which include:

  • Task 1:

The candidate is presented with a situation and asked to write a letter requesting information or explaining the situation which may be either personal, semi-formal or formal style.

  • Task 2:

The candidate is asked to write an essay in response to a point of view, argument or problem. The essay can be either personal or formal.

Speaking Test:

IELTS Speaking Test is in recorded form and consists of three parts stimulating face-to-face interview with an examiner. The 3 parts of the writing test include:

  • Part 1:

The examiner asks the candidate general questions relating self-introduction and range of familiar topics like home, family, studies, work and interests. The duration of this part is four to five minutes.

  • Part 2:

The candidate will be given a card which asks to talk about a particular topic and is given one minute to prepare before speaking. The candidate is allowed to speak about the topic for about 2 minutes and the examiner might ask a few questions relating to the same topic to complete the task or part.

  • Part 3:

The candidate is asked few more questions relating to the topic as given in Part 2 and this gives the candidate an opportunity to discuss or abstract ideas on the issue. The duration of this part is 4 to 5 minutes.
