About IELTS Exam

IELTS stands for International English Language Testing System. This exam is developed by some of the leading experts of English language. This test is accepted more than 10,000 organizations across the world including schools, universities, employers, immigration authorities and professional bodies. The IELTS is the most effective way of testing your English conversation skills.

IELTS Syllabus

The IELTS syllabus is available for us in two formats, IELTS Academic and IELTS General Training.

These two are have four important and compulsory sections such as listening, reading, writing and speaking.

For you we are mentioning the different sections of IELTS exam syllabus below.

IELTS Listening Section

Time Duration: 60 Minutes

The IELTS section has four sub-sections. Each section is heard only once. Listening section for both Academic and General Training is same.

Recording 1: The first section is a conversation between two people set in an everyday context.

Recording 2: The second section is a speech.

Recording 3:  The third section is a conversation among of four people maximum is an academic setting

Recording 4:  The last one is a monologue on an academic subject, for instance, an academic lecture.

IELTS Reading Section

Time Duration: 60 Minutes

The IELTS Reading section includes the multiple choice, sentence completion, summary writing, matching information, short answers etc. This reading section consists of 40 questions. A variety of question types like reading for gist, reading for detail, skimming, reading for main ideas, understanding logical argument, recognizing writers’ opinion are used to test a wide range of reading skills of the candidates.

IELTS Reading Academic:

• The Academic version of the syllabus includes three long texts which range from the descriptive and factual to the discursive and analytical.
• These texts are authentic and taken form books, journals, magazines and newspapers.
• This is appropriate for candidates entering university courses or seeking professional registration.

IELTS Reading General Training: In General Training Reading section, candidates need to read extracts from books, magazines, newspapers, notices, advertisements, company handbooks and guidelines.

IELTS Writing Section

Time Duration: 60 Minutes

The IELTS writing section includes both Academic and General Writing.

IELTS Academic: Topics are including in this like general interest to, and suitable for, test takers entering undergraduate and postgraduate studies or seeking professional registration. There are two tasks:

Task 1:

Candidates will be presented with a graph, table, chart or diagram and asked to describe or explain the information in their own words. They may be asked to describe and explain data, describe the stages of a process, how something works or describe an object or event etc.

Task 2:

Candidates will be asked to write an essay in response to a point of view, argument or problem.

IELTS General Training: ILETS General Training includes the topics of general interest. There are 2 tasks in this writing section.

Task 1:

The candidates have to present one situation and have to write a letter requesting information, or explaining the situation. The letter may in formal style.

Task 2:

The candidates have to write an essay in response to a point of view, argument or problem. The essay can be fairly personal in style.

IELTS Speaking Section

Time Duration: 11-14 Minutes:

The speaking section estimates your use of spoken English. Every test is recorded. This section consists of three parts.

• Part 1: The examiner will ask the candidates general questions about themselves and a range of familiar topics, such as home, family, work, studies and interests. This part duration is four to five minutes.
• Part 2: Candidates will be given a card which asks them to talk about a particular topic. They will have one minute to prepare before speaking for up to two minutes. The examiner may ask one or two questions on the same topic.
• Part 3: The candidates will be asked further questions about the topic in part 2. This part duration is four to five minutes.
